Proposing is an awkward time for both parties when it comes to it. The majority of the time, the person that is being proposed to is not expecting it. The person doing the proposing is also feeling very awkward and asking multiple questions in their head. As well as the main question “will you marry me?”.
With those couples that have made it through lockdown, many of them see it as a perfect opportunity to get married after surviving lockdown with each other. There are a few things that you need to clear up before you propose. Hopefully, this guide will put you on the right path to having a successful proposal.
Make Sure You Feel The Same Way
You must be on the same page as one another. The last thing that you want to do is propose to someone who isn’t ready for marriage yet. The best way you can go about this is to ask subtle questions. Do not bombard with questions or else you will be giving it away that you are going to propose.
There are a couple of questions that you should be asking such as “Would you ever consider marriage?” and “what do you think is the right age for marriage?”. Do not just bring these up out of the blue. Ask these when you are either at a wedding or you are watching a wedding happen on television. That way, you can get a feel of where their mind is at. Then you will have an idea of what your partner will say when you pop the question.
Talk To Their Parents
It might seem old fashioned but it is respectful. Speaking to both parents about marrying their daughter is very important. This depends on whether or not they are close and in touch with their parents. Again, you can get a feel of if your partner is ready for marriage. There is a high chance that the parents have already asked the question themselves. Your partner isn’t anyone’s property, but it is just out of respect for your partner and their parents.
Purchase The Ring
Before you rush into buying your partner a vintage engagement ring, you have got to find out what they like. If they wear jewellery, take a peek into their jewellery box to get a feel of their favourite style and material. Some people prefer gold over silver, others prefer vintage sapphire engagement rings over gold rings. Do your research before you jump into it.
There are many ways that you can do your research before purchasing any engagement rings. Ask their friends to see if they have mentioned anything. If you are walking through a shopping mall, walk past a jewellery store. See which rings they prefer without saying “would you like that as an engagement ring?”.
There are many ways to go about it. The best bet is to ask people who are close to them. That way, they do not have a clue of how it is happening as well as when it is happening. Get a feel of what they like before you buy the ring and ask the question.
